When Crypto meets the Real World: Summer School in Real-World Crypto and Privacy

As member of the security group working on crypto, we had the opportunity to travel to Sibenik in Croatia for vacations to the summer school in real-world cryptography and privacy.

The summer school was packed with beer, cherries, lectures and talks from well known researchers from academia and industry. The first day was dedicated to introductory talks on symmetric crypto, asymmetric crypto, crypto protocol and a special talk on open access.

It was interesting and relevant to talk about open access, since it is a hot topic in academia and we need to take part in the discussion and do something about it. If you’re not familiar with the topic, the following video might help.

The following days contained more advanced talks on different topics related to crypto, privacy and security in general. Of course is not a summer school if we spent the whole day indoors!

As part of the school, an excursion to the Krka National Park was organized. The trip to the park was on a boat and over there it was possible to appreciate the nature and waterfalls.

It was a nice experience to meet researchers and enjoy the hot summer! 🙂
