IECON 2014 conference in Dallas, USA

IECON 2014, the flagship conference of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) was held in Sheraton Hotel in Dallas, Texas, USA from October 29 to November 1, 2014. I was presenting there a paper titled “Automatic Crash Detection for Motor Cycles”. The list of authors was Jussi Parviainen(me), Timo Pihlström, Jussi Collin, Jarmo Takala, Kari Hanski and Aki Lumiaho. The last two authors were from Ramboll company. The paper presented a concept of using distributed inertial measurement units for automatic crash detection.

The conference included over 700 oral presentations and about 140 posters. The majority of papers consisted of power electronics, however, there were also sessions with signal processing applications, which I was more interested in.

The conference hotel, Sheraton Dallas hotel, was one of the skyscrapers located in downtown Dallas having good views over the city from 37th floor lobby. Downtown Dallas mainly consisted of office buildings and many of those had dark tinted glasses making mirror like effect. In general Dallas downtown seemed to be clean and actually quite quiet on the streets.
